Superbrand Receives Two SIMA Image Awards Nominations
Superbrand is pleased to announce SIMA Image Award nominations in two categories. The Spam model surfboard—designed in collaboration with pro surfer and Superbrand founder Dion Agius—has been nominated for Performance Shortboard of the Year, and the Fling—Superbrand’s best selling model year in and year out—nominated for Alternative Surfboard Model of the Year. 2016 marks the 4th year in a row a Superbrand surfboard has received a SIMA nomination.
Dubbed “the fastest board I’ve ever ridden,” by Agius, the Spam is built for speed and maximum levels of fun in small-to-medium sized surf and features a winged swallowtail that makes for an incredibly tight turning radius. After being debuted in May of 2016, team riders and consumers alike have been raving about the Spam.
Designed as a shorter and more modern/high performance take on the keel fin fish, the Fling surfboard model has all the cool traits of the throwbacks yet can be surfed like a high performance shortboard. Available in PU construction and in Superbrand’s renowned “Superflex” technology, the Fling has been a best seller worldwide and is a must have in any quiver. “We’re super (pun intended) stoked on the two SIMA Image Awards nominations,” says Superbrand Marketing Director Justin Coté. “The nominations are a testament to the hard working and forward thinking craftsmen who make our boards. It starts with the leader of the Superbrand Shapers’ Collective—Adam “Sparrow” Fletcher—and trickles down to the guys who do the laminating, fin box installation, hot coating, sanding, and quality control in our factories. Those are the guys who separate us from the pack,” he adds.
Established in 2003, the SIMA Awards is the only awards program that gives SIMA members and surf specialty retailers the opportunity to recognize fellow surf industry companies for their outstanding contributions to the surf industry. The goal of the SIMA Awards is to identify the surf industry’s most influential companies and recognize them for their efforts to advance and grow the industry over the past year. Voting is now underway at sima.com/about-sima-awards.
